News \ Nintendo DS Celebrates 5 Years in Australia

Welcome to the fashionably late Nintendo DS 5th anniversary celebration! Truth be told the DS actually turned 5 in Australia yesterday, but shhhhhh!

The Nintendo DS was released in Australia 5 years ago, on February 24, 2005. It's since gone on to become Australia's most successful gaming console, surpassing juggernauts the Gameboy and PlayStation 2.

At the end of last year the DS had sold over 125 million consoles worldwide. That number includes original units, the updated DS Lite and more recent DSi. Since then, of course, the latter has been upgraded to create the DSi XL. Talk about console of many faces!
