Most Portable gaming consoles have their fair share of complementing accessories and the Nintendo DS is no exception but when there’s such vast selection to choose from, things can get a little daunting come purchase time. What works? What should I spend my money on first? Do I really need this? Are all questions that may go through your mind when you’re in a store or online staring at a huge selection of accessories. Well we here at MyDS.com.au have put together a list of recommended Nintendo DS accessories that have been tried and tested by the members and hopefully that will be enough to help you out.
Note: This accessory list hasn’t been put into any specific order as personal tastes and requirements will vary between people.
Carry Case
Keep your Nintendo DS unit, games and accessories safe and organised with a carry case. There’s so many styles and designs available from both Nintendo and aftermarket companies that there’s bound to be something that suites your needs.
Alternate Power Chargers
Some times a power point isn’t accessible and when your Nintendo DS begins to give you that dreaded low battery light you need another way to charge up your battery. Luck for us DS owners there’s quite a few options. Wether you’re on the road or near a computer there’s a way to recharge the Nintendo DS.
Aftermarket Stylus
When the standard stylus just isn’t long enough for you, aftermarket extendable versions are available that retract in length so it can still be stored away with in the Nintendo DS. With some games using the provided Nintendo stylus just isn’t up to the task, a Comfort Stylus can solve this problem. The comfort Stylus is made from a flexible material and you can bend it to a desired shape depending on what application.
Ear Phones
Enjoy the full spectrum of stereo sound from your Nintendo DS by using a set of ear phones They come in handy when there’s to much noise around you and the speakers in the Nintendo DS are struggling to keep up or when you want a little privacy when enjoying your Nintendo DS.
DS Screen Protectors
Keep those dual screens in pristine condition by using some cheap but effective screen protectors. The bottom touch screen can easily be damaged after a few hours of vagarious stylus rubbing.
DS Gripper
The Nintendo DS Lite doesn’t contour to everybody’s hand and after a long gaming session this may cause some discomfort, if this is you then your solution is to buy one of these DS Grippers that extend the shape of the Nintendo DS unit to a more ergonomic shape and as an added bonus speakers are built in for a slightly higher decibel level.
Cartridge Case
Keep individual game cartridge clean and safe from damage by using one of many DS Cartridge cases, some hold multiple games, some are stackable, and the list goes on and on, it’s another one of those accessories that have a huge selection of styles.
Nintendo DS browser
Surf the Internet using this the DS Opera Internet Browser, it may not perform at the speed we are all used to but it comes in very handy if there’s free WiFi access in the area. This unit come packaged with additional RAM that slots into the GBA port.
DS Rumble Pak
The DS Rumble Pak is an accessory that gives your gaming experience that extra dimension in game play by providing feed back in the form of vibrations through your Nintendo DS Unit eg crashing a car, firing a weapon and so on, and variations in feed back all depend on developers programming. For a full list of Rumble Pak compatible games click here.
DS Flash Cart
With a DS Flash Cart you can unlock many wonderful features that were previously not accessible. Turn your Nintendo DS into a touch screen portable multimedia centre with the ability to play MP3s, video files and view images. Expand the already extensive Nintendo DS game library by exploring the world of Home Brew games and software. A highly recommended accessory if you want more out of your Nintendo DS and you can choose from many different brands, with each having their own strengths and weaknesses but basically they all pretty much perform the same task.
