I got to play REUC at eGames and it's a bit like Hoes of the Dead by Sega, quite fun to play.
While at eGames I got to play Halo3 multiplayer because they had around 20 of them linked together, it was quite fun to play but there's nothing to special about Halo3.
xBox live is noted as the best online multiplayer network out of the current gen consoles, but personally I refuse to pay to play for a online service, but that's just me.
As for the Wii controls being referred to as a gimmick I think that's because of the recent influx of crappy 3rd party games just chucking in motion sensing for the sake of it instead of utilizing the full potential of the acceleratometer which has been praised by many, just look at all the things cleaver people have been doing with them on Youtube, the system is there it's up to the developers to use it properly, Metroid 3 is an excellent example of this.
