Professor Layton has been a runaway success in Japan, and is quickly finding support in English speaking markets. While the second trilogy is currently in development for the Nintendo DS, one would assume that the next logically step would be for a move to the DS's big brother, the Wii. The IR pointer and motion controls are great for puzzle-based games, but developer Level 5 say they have no plans to bring the professor to the console any time soon.
"This trilogy comes to a conclusion with Professor Layton and the Last Time Travel," Level 5 CEO, Akihiro Hino, told the UK Offical Nintendo Magazine, "but we will be releasing the first title of the new trilogy, Professor Layton and the Flute of Malevolent Destiny in Japan. The new trilogy will also be based around solving puzzles, but will also include greatly improved bonus modes so I think that players will be able to enjoy the games for even longer. We currently have no plans for a Wii release."
Australia only just got the second game in the trilogy, Professor Layton & Pandora’s Box. Check out our review here.
