News \ Iwata: 3DS can display everything in 2D

Nintendo President Satoru Iwata has confirmed the 3D function of the upcoming 3DS (code name) can be switched off.

While Nintendo insists it's a revolutionary step forward, they realise there are some health side effects related to 3D entertainment. A number of people report motion sickness, dizziness and other unpleasant symptoms whilst playing 3D games or watching 3D movies.

It's also good news if you fear it'll be nothing more than a gimmick and want to play with a more traditional view.

3DS is just the code name, only a slim chance it'll be the final name.

I think they've probably realised that motion is really a gimmick to an extent with Wii and 3D will be somewhat the same. Most of the best games on Wii use little to no motion, so they don't want to limit quality games by forcing the use of what is really a developing technology.
