We didn't hear much about the successor to the DS at last week's GDC, so naturally the post-conference rumour mill has begun to spin. According to Kotaku the DS's successor will be roughly as powerful as the GameCube.
That's hardly a surprise, and the rumour has been around almost as long as the DS. The GBA was approximately on par with the SNES and the DS is only a little behind the Nintendo 64; it doesn't take a genius to put it together. That would make it quite a bit more powerful than the PSP, and not that far off the Wii, as it's only a little more powerful than the GCN.
We've also heard that the next Nintendo handheld will once again feature two screens, but this time the gap between them will be minor. Essentially this means games could use them as one big screen, better than they currently do on the DS, with its gap you could park Grandpa's lorry on.
Developers are hinting that games for the yet to be announced system will be ready by year's end. That means we should expect an announcement at E3 in June.

Tsunamo said: I don't, the PSP can hold enough power to produce great games with about 2gb of space, so I honostly don't see why a next gen DS sucessor can't.
