Picross is definitely worth playing, and it is one of those touch generation game you can get for cheap.

Other suggestions:

-Tetris DS
-New super mario brothers

This is all the games I like at the moment.

Another game you might want to consider is Pokemon, which is exactly what you might expect it to be if you have played it on previous systems... so if you liked it before you'll like it now.
Mario Party DS is good, Animal Crossing Wild World has a huge fan base, Lego Star Wars the Complete Saga is probably worth a look, Phoenix Wright is strangely appealing, and I've heard Lost Magic is pretty good too.

If you're interested in importing Jump Ultimate and Jump Superstars are two games to get, though while they are in japanese, they are still relatively easy to get into and play

Anyway those games are just for starters, i have other recommendations. If you are into WWE (or the games at least) the DS version of Smackdown vs RAW 2008 isn't too bad

As long as you have at least one of them games, you will have the best fun you can get out of a DS.
