Home Page: dsgamemaker.com As a lot of users on this web site may already know, I dabble a bit in making my own DS games/apps. What you may not realize is that I do not know how to program!! Doesn't sound correct does it? This is where DS Game Maker comes in. DS Game Maker is a GUI that allows you to arrange your sprites and backgrounds onto the top and bottom screens of a DS and then allows you to give them "actions". The software comes with pre-defined actions which hide all the coding needed to achieve movement, sound and control. The software works like a WYSIWYG html editor works for coding web pages. You don't need to know html to make a web page and now you do not need to know C/C++ to make a Nintendo DS game. Of coarse any programming knowledge will make things easier but there is a wealth of information and helpful people on the DS Game Maker forums. I have found that by using the software I have actually learnt some programming like loops and variables. If you have ever wanted to make your own games and have fast results then this is a good starting place. Forget "Hello World" and make anything from a simple alarm clock to mini games right up to the multi level platform game you have always dreamed of. DSGM has limitations as it is hard to create actions for every single scenario. You can alter existing actions to tailor them to your needs or just make your own and share them with the community. DSGM mainly uses 2D graphics but it does have some 3D functions. So far I have made 3 big applications and tons of small ones just to get used to the functionality of the software. Check the homebrew threads in the forum or visit my blog duelscreenwhiz.blogspot.com/ or the DSGM website to see my work. I found that there is very little to learn to get started and the main hold ups is making your graphics, but you can get around this by using pre-made sprites and backgrounds as some do come with the software. The free version of the software will show you the power that this app has but purchasing the software for just US$10 is cheap and well worth it. For starters it takes off the developers URL that appears on the top of every screen and you get around 30 more actions to give your games even more functionality. If you have a flash cart and want to do something that is not illegal with it then making your own stuff is a great idea.
